Events

Ecco, some events that occur annually in Ancona and its surroundings.  There’s a lot of local feste/sagreor little festivals in random, little villages that are dedicated to a certain food or drink- when you have the opportunity, check them out, because they’re pretty fun and authentic in its products.  Be sure to verify events for specific times/options, as things change a little bit every year!

We hope to update this until it is bustling at the seams, so, if you know of any festivals or events that we’ve left out, don’t hesitate to let us know!

LONG TERM EVENTS:

MAY:

  • Fiera di San Ciriaco – Celebrate with San Ciriaco, the saint of Ancona, with traditional booths and street shops as well as prolonged orari for most of the shops (~ 9 AM until 11 PM)

  • Amo La Mole – For almost four months, Ancona is filled with music, theater, concerts, outdoor movie screening, dance performances, shows… a long schedule of events to fill up the silent nights of Ancona. Definitely check out the website to see the line-up for each day!  Many of the events are free, and those that aren’t are worth the small admission price- if not for anything else than trying something new.

  • Pool Disco Party ~ DJ/Music & Friends.  Stay up late (Italians are capable of partying on the beach until the sun rises again) with many other summer-tanned, heated bodies swaying to the beat.  Tropical cocktails offered to make the night even more fun!

AUGUST:

  • SUMMER JAMBOREE Rockin’Holiday – Claimed as internationally the most important festival dedicated to the rockin’ 40’s and 50’s in America, Summer Jamboree turns the historical city of Senigallia into one big dance floor, complete with dozens of vintage markets, old cars, and food stands where you can get your fill of hot dogs, pink donuts, and jambalaya.  Great live music from international singers, and a Hawaiian beach party on the final night to end things with a bang.  Great fun; do dress up if you wish to properly join the festivities!

Summer Jamboree

  • Adriatico Mediterraneo –  intense days of music performances throughout the city, ending with the Sea Festival.  Honoring the history, tradition, and role of the Adriatic sea (romantico!), this city-wide event features both local and not-so-local artists.  Most of the events take place at Mole Vanvitelliana, a port/pier/former hospital on the sea that is open-aired and offers a great atmosphere.

  • Sea Festival and Historic Palio “horse race” of San Giovanni

SEPTEMBER

  • International Accordion Festival– Exactly what it sounds like.  Castelfidardo is the city of the accordion, known to the world as home of the first industrial vocation of this reed instrument.  With noteworthy musicians, children’s music events, master classes, and an abundant amount of classy concerts, this might make you think again about the accordion.
    When: Usually third week of September

  • La Festa del Mare–   Every year, Ancona pays homage to its millenium-long tie to the sea with a ‘Sea Festival’, an event where hundreds of boats sail out in front of the dock to honor the sea and the past deceased.  Throughout the seaside of the city, there are games, shows, food vendors, and street artists a lot of boats go in front of the dock to remember the people died with a religion ceremony.  There is also a sail boating competition called Regnata del Conera.To end off the festival, a colorful fireworks show (with smiley face fireworks!)
